45 million hryvnias for Kyiv Regional Perinatal Center from Credit Agricole

07 October 2024

On October 3, 2024, the new neonatal intensive care unit was opened at Kyiv Regional Perinatal Center. It contains 7 fully equipped and functional hospital beds – open intensive care systems and incubators for supporting the premature babies.

This charitable project is the largest one Crédit Agricole has undertaken in Ukraine, worth nearly UAH 45 million. Four entities joined effort to bring it to life: Credit Agricole Ukraine, Credit Agricole Group Foundation, as well as the regional banks Crédit Agricole Brie Picardie and Crédit Agricole Nord de France.

The charitable initiative was implemented in two stages with the help of “Your Support” Foundation. The idea to complete the major repairs of the unit in compliance with all the medical standards and requirements put the start to the large-scale project. In the end of 2023, the financial institutions allocated UAH 2.3 million for the repair works. Then, in the summer of 2024, the Perinatal Center received all the necessary medical equipment worth UAH 42.5 million in total.

“War has posed great challenges to medicine. Despite all the difficulties, the life of every human being remains the most precious thing. We are working to ensure that everyone in the region receives timely, high-quality and affordable medical care, with the most advanced and professional equipment available to doctors. In the Kyiv region, we are actively engaged in rebuilding everything that was destroyed by the occupiers, including medical facilities. And I am grateful to our partners who are involved. Thanks to the joint efforts of the Charity Foundation “Your Support” and the Crédit Agricole Group, a new, modern, professionally equipped intensive care unit has been opened at the regional perinatal center. The lives of babies requiring special care will be reliably protected”, said Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration.

“As the war started, the number of babies born prematurely has increased drastically in Ukraine: according to our statistics, nearly one in five newborns is a preterm baby, sometimes weighing below 1000 grams. Thanks to the new intensive care unit, a lot more infants will get the needed treatment right here, which is instrumental for saving their lives. In addition to saving babies with critically low body mass, the new ICU will also provide the long-term artificial lung ventilation, rehabilitation and stabilization of the little ones. We are grateful to Credit Agricole for completing such a complicated and crucial project that will save lives of thousands of babies, - comments Oleksandr Kachur, General Director of the Communal Non-Profit Enterprise of Kyiv Regional Council “Kyiv Regional Perinatal Center”.

Over 130 units of the medical equipment and other indispensable devices were purchased and handed over to Kyiv Perinatal Center by the Group Foundation and the three Credit Agricole banks as part of the second stage of the charitable initiative. The equipment includes instant care systems for newborns, artificial lung ventilation units, breathing systems for non-invasive ventilation, amplitude-integrated encephalography, blood gas and electrolyte analyzers, patient monitors, syringe pumps, medical aspirators, etc. All the items are top quality, purchased in response to the doctors’ requests and are under 12 months service warranty.

“This project has a special place in our hearts. Its importance is marked by the joint effort of the four Credit Agricole Group entities. The new intensive care unit for babies that are born prematurely due to the stress brought on by the war is about the chance to live. Granted, help from the gifted doctors is of essence. We are doing our best to create the environment to enable doctors to save lives of the newborns. It is our contribution to the recovery of the nation”, - Carlos de Cordoue, Chairman of the Management Board of Credit Agricole.

Kyiv Regional Perinatal Center systemically provides highly specialized obstetric gynecologic and neonatal care for women of Kyiv region, the city of Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine. The hospital treats over 600 children every year.

“As the war started, the bank has emphasized its social stance. Our choice is to take action, do everything in our powers in this situation, help those in need, spread kindness and thus contribute to victory. UAH 147,5 million is the amount Credit Agricole spent on various charitable initiatives”, - shares Viktoriia Torianyk, Head of Brand and Communications at Credit Agricole Bank.

Credit Agricole has its own We Care! program, which includes supporting orphanages in Ukraine, procuring new medical equipment for hospitals nationwide, high capacity diesel power generators for social institutions.

“The war has brought on many challenges, especially for the youngest Ukrainians who just came into this world. We are grateful to our partners for creating this ICU that will become a beacon of hope for thousands of families. In addition to saving lives, this project also gives the chance for the future to those who need it the most – our children”, – Valeriia Tatarchuk, founder of Your Support Charity Fund.
