Who are “money mules” and why is it so dangerous?

Who are “money mules”?

These are people who, for a monetary reward, agree to open bank accounts and transfer them to third parties for use. Later, these accounts are used for money laundering and other illegal financial operations.

How can you get an offer?

Fraudsters disguise themselves as “employers” and “investors” on social networks or in private messages in messengers from unknown accounts. They offer “easy money” for opening an account or providing access to a banking app (logins, passwords and OTP codes).

Being a “money mule” is dangerous!

By agreeing to such earnings, you become an accomplice in crimes, such as money laundering, terrorist financing, and fraud. These actions are subject to criminal liability. In addition, you risk losing your own funds and reputation. Moreover, you may encounter banks refusing to provide financial services in Ukraine.

Don’t get dragged in!

Always check who you are dealing with and never transfer control over your account to third parties.

Remember that there is no such thing as easy money! Any offers of earnings that require you to open an account at someone else's request or provide your payment details are complicity in fraudulent schemes.
